Upon purchasing a dahlia tuber from our farm, you'll receive detailed care instructions with your physical order. However, we wanted to provide you with a snippet of what to expect when growing dahlias, before they actually arrive.

Planting. Chose an area with 8+ hours of sunlight, and well-draining soil. After the threat of frost has passed, plant tuber horizontally, 6" deep in gently moistened soil.

*Do not fully water again until the first sprout appears, as too much water without roots, will lead to rot. *

Soil. Dahlias love well-draining soil full of organic matter. One of our favorite ways to improve soil health, is by adding worm castings!

Water. Overhead or drip, dahlias need deep water to reach their roots, but not stay soggy. Avoid consistent overwatering, which leads to tuber rot. Frequency per week depends on your zone and weather.

Cut & Come Again. Harvesting dahlia blooms regularly and cutting off dead heads, encourages the plant to produce even more. Yielding a bounty of stems per plant in a single season.

Fertilizer. Largely depends on your soil. As a general rule of thumb, apply a balanced fertilizer early in the season, and taper to a lower-nitrogen product once blooms start forming.

Growth Rate. Dahlias take an average of 120 days to fully mature and produce tubers. Tuber production heavily varies with each variety.

End of Season. Many dahlia gardeners choose to lift their plants at the end of season, to divide the tuber clumps and multiply their stock for next year. However, if you live in Zones 8-10, you can "overwinter" dahlias in ground.

If you live in Zones 7-3, dahlia tubers risk rotting in ground due to the wet winter climate and freezing temps. Plants can be dug, dried to touch, and stored in a dry, dark area between 40-50°F.

Tuber shipping for 2025 will begin mid-end April, once forecast is clear of freezing temperatures.

Flat rate shipping of $18 per order, no matter the tuber quantity.

Local pick up is offered to Flathead County residents. Ensure you can arrive on April 17th, between 1-2PM or don't select farm pick up please!

We cannot ship early. Our Montanan climate hovers below freezing until mid-late April and we will not risk tubers freezing in post.
